Frequently asked questions
Straight answers we give homeowners and builders. If yours is not here, ask directly.
- What areas do you serve?
- Jigawatt Electric serves Calgary, Cochrane, and Rocky View County. If you are just outside those boundaries, ask anyway — we take selective projects based on scope and schedule.
- How quickly can you respond?
- Timelines depend on workload and permit requirements. For planning-heavy work (custom homes, renovations, panel upgrades), we will quote a realistic start window. Emergencies are handled when capacity allows — call and we will be honest about availability.
- Do you offer free estimates?
- Yes for most residential and small commercial inquiries. Complex jobs may require a paid site visit if significant diagnostic time is needed before we can quote; we will tell you that up front.
- Are you licensed and insured?
- We carry appropriate liability insurance and work to Alberta electrical code and permitting requirements. Ask for credentials when we book — you should expect that from any contractor you hire.
- My lights flicker when the furnace starts. Is that dangerous?
- It can be a loose neutral, undersized service, or a failing motor drawing heavy inrush current. Some causes are nuisance-level; others are safety issues. If you smell burning, see scorch marks, or have repeated breaker trips, treat it as urgent.
- Will I need a permit?
- Many panel upgrades, new circuits, service changes, and rental suites do. We handle permit strategy as part of the quote so inspections are not a surprise at the end of the job.
